Microcertificate in Data Management

Overview

The Microcertificate in Data Management is designed to provide students with a sneak peek into the core concepts or principles of data governance, data management, information security, and cybersecurity.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this microcertificate, students will be equipped to:

  • Explain the importance of project plans aligning with stakeholder needs and the project charter.
  • Describe the main concepts of information security.
  • Explain the principles of data quality and integrity.

Admission Requirements

An online application must be submitted and accepted before a student begins their first course. All courses in the microcertificate must be completed or approved through ADP. Transfer credits are not permitted for this microcertificate.

Certificate Requirements

Microcertificate in Data Management (3 credit hours)

Complete the following:

The microcertificate is successfully finished when all microcertificate courses are completed with grades of C- or better and a certificate GPA of 2.0 or above.
This course is designed to provide students with a sneak peek into the core concepts or principles of information security and cybersecurity. Information security professionals work to protect information and information systems from unauthorized access, use, disclosure, disruption, modification, or destruction in order to provide confidentiality, integrity, and availability of organizational data. Students will learn how training and security awareness can help an organization reduce its risk.
This course is designed to provide students with a sneak peek into the core concepts or principles of data governance and data management. Data Governance can be defined as the overall administration, through clearly defined procedures and plans, that assures the availability, integrity, security, and usability of the structured and unstructured data available to an organization (AHIMA, 2020). This course will explain the difference between data analytics and informatics. Students will learn how big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning are impacting data analytics.
This course will provide a brief overview and analysis of concepts in the field of project management. Students will be exposed to project management history, processes and knowledge areas. Students will examine how project management has evolved over time and found its way into a diversity of industries with project managers and project management offices (PMOs) now being commonplace. From traditional to agile methodologies, students will consider different approaches to project management.
