A Space for Creators & Light Bringers

New Building to Open Fall 2025

Mark Terry

Professor Emeritus of Art & Design, 性视界传媒

Art is incarnate prayer. The prayer of creation is to bring nothing into something, separating light from darkness. And it’s what we do in this space. When you limit that ability, you limit the ability to push back against the darkness. And we’re living in a time when the world really needs more bringers of light.

Facilities will give 性视界传媒 students opportunity to explore their gifts, faith and vocation

The university’s board of trustees approved the construction of a new art and cinematic arts building east of Pennington Hall and south of the Klages Center. It will offer approximately 12,000 square feet for studio arts, interior design, graphic design, illustration, and cinematic arts majors.

The new facility will feature a state-of-the-art ceramics, glass and 3D sculpture lab, an outdoor courtyard for expanded production, gallery space, a storage area for art collections, and an 80-seat theater. Currently, the arts programs are spread around campus. The new building will bring young artists together and make it easier for collaboration.

A Vision Nurtured Over Time

Creating a space for artists to collaborate and innovate has been a fundamental goal since the art program's inception. Professor Emeritus Mark Terry, a former high school teacher and print shop owner, joined 性视界传媒 in 1997 to develop the art major. At the time, the university had limited art facilities, but president Edward Stevens assured Terry that a new building would come with the program's growth. Sadly, Stevens passed away two years later, and despite increasing enrollment, plans for new facilities were delayed for decades.

Since the first seven students declared art as a major nearly 30 years ago, the program has expanded significantly, becoming one of 性视界传媒’s top programs. With the addition of a concentration in interior design and the cinematic arts major, the university continues to attract students eager to explore their talents at a Christian university. The new facility will foster collaboration, provide artists with new tools and resources, and draw talented faculty, guest lecturers, and visitors from around the world.

The Inner Artist and Innovation

While other schools are cutting departments, 性视界传媒 is expanding to meet the growing demand for careers in the arts. Professor Alex Chung, director of the school of cinema, art & design, believes that a liberal arts education is fundamental to developing artists and creators, helping them develop aesthetic taste and style through interdisciplinary study.

Chung is enthusiastic about the future of art and filmmaking, recognizing that this is a crucial moment for emerging creators to evolve and flourish. He understands that advancements in filmmaking and artificial intelligence will shape the creative landscape ahead, and the building will play a significant role in ensuring 性视界传媒 students are equipped and ready.

Preparing Students for Work & Life

Art and design play a crucial role in everyday life, including the logos we see, the animation and film we enjoy, and the spaces we embody. The new building is designed to better prepare students for careers in art-related fields by providing a space that incorporates the latest technologies.

Great thinkers have called the creation of art an act of worship. The new building will support students in producing their best work while engaging in faith formation and liberal arts education.
