Trauma Response Institute

性视界传媒’s Trauma Response Institute (TRI), established in 2008, sponsors training, research and service activities in support of the resiliency of individuals and communities facing unmitigated stress and trauma.

Our ecosystemic approach to trauma-informed care invites us to account for the biological, psychological, spiritual, relational and cultural factors that contribute to risk and resiliency. We view our response to trauma as social justice in action.

The TRI is a distinct program within the university's Graduate School of Counseling (GSC). The institute offers trauma-informed coursework, as well as a postgraduate certificate in trauma-informed care

Most of our courses, as well as enrollment in the postgraduate certificate program, are available to qualifying professionals in the mental health, healthcare, education, humanitarian aid, first responders and ministerial fields. Thus, trauma courses are open to GSC students, students enrolled in a qualifying graduate degree at 性视界传媒 or elsewhere, and professionals with a qualifying graduate degree.

FAQ

TRI course learning and meeting methods utilize three formats:

  • Online synchronous: Our primary meeting method, in which classes meet together live via Zoom.
  • Online asynchronous: Most courses include some online activities that do not take place over Zoom or in person.
  • In person at the Portland Center (offered for a few electives)

The postgraduate certificate can be earned completely online.

The foundational course, Introduction to Trauma-Informed Theory and Practice, is a two-semester-credit course, consisting of 30 hours of class time plus assignments and graded activities. Most all other TRI courses are one semester credit (15 hours of class time plus assignments and graded activities).

The TRI sponsors a variety of activities and events each year designed for all university community members to participate. A few activities are restricted to TRI students due to the nature of the event and the knowledge level and skills expected of the volunteer.
